Termite control treatments are one of the most regulated areas of pest control in New Jersey. The reason is simple, the toxicity of the chemicals used in this type of pest control treatment. Thankfully, GreenHeatNJ.com LLC can provide alternative, greener techniques to rid you of your termite problem.
One of the traditional methods for treatment of subterranean termites is to dig a 6 inch x 6 inch trench the around the foundation of the home. This is kind of like a mote around the castle. A chemical solution made of “water and termiticide” is mixed and the solution is poured into the newly dug trench. What is being done is the wrapping of the home’s perimeter with a protective chemical barrier. The chemicals used in this application are known as “termiticides. A typical single family home can easily require 100 to 150 gallons of termiticide solution.
The termiticides are designed with agents allowing them to bond with the soil and remain intact and potent for 7-10 years or longer. One of the concerns with this type of treatment is that the barrier needs to be continuous surrounding the foundation to be effective. Any break in this barrier and termites may infiltrate the structure.
Another concern is the toxicity of the chemicals. These treatments can impact some vegetation in the garden, shrubs and landscaping. It is safe to say they are somewhat toxic. The other thing is that these chemical treatment do not address the termite colony, it may not be affected.
We found a better way to address “Termites and their Colonies”. We use scientifically proven “Termite Baiting Systems”. These systems were first introduced in the 1990’s. They have been field tested with conclusive data to prove their success. These systems are in-ground stations/canisters designed specifically for the baiting & monitoring of subterranean termites. We install these stations around the perimeter of the home. A skilled exterminator then monitors each station on a regular/periodic schedule throughout the year.
The termites never see it coming. In fact, when the termites find our bait, and we have active foraging termites in our ground stations we transplant them with the active ingredient. They in turn take the new bait back to nest and share it with the colony. The “active ingredient” in Shatter Termite Bait is an insect growth regulator that stops the termites molting process, meaning they are unable to grow. As a result, they die. That’s how the colony is eliminated.
Instead of using the traditional methods as discussed above and chemically treating the entire perimeter of the home, we only treat where the termites are actively present. This approach to termite treatment is no doubt “environmentally sensible”.
